There are 4 methods to check dry fruits quality;

1. Discoloration
The easiest trick to know is if the dry fruits you are buying are good on quality or not, check out for signs of discoloration as the fruit will grow darker than its natural color if it spoils.

2. Hard to chew
If dry fruits like raisins, figs, and pistachios are too hard to chew, it means they are old or have been treated at high temperatures and are not good for your body.

3. Foul smell
Make sure that you smell the dry fruits before you buy. The smell of rot is a sign that the dry fruit is old and has not been stored properly. Often happens that they turn moldy because of the absorption of moisture in the air.

4. Expiry date
In general, local shops sell dry fruits in a loose packet and are likely to have no expiry date. It is suggested that one must buy dry fruits that are packaged and labeled as per FSSAI guidelines.
